Rigel VII is a planet in the Rigel Star Group.
In 2254 a landing party from the starship Enterprise, led by Captain Pike visited this world. While inside an apparently abandoned encampment, Pike and crew were set upon by Kaylar warriors native to this world. Three crewpeople, including Pike's personal yeoman, were killed. Seven more were injured, som severely. Pike often regrets the decision to allow his people to enter the Rigelian buildings, he sometimes states that he should have been more wary given the warlike trappings of the fortress. (TOS:"The Cage").
- A matte painting of a castle with a setting planetoid or moon behind represented the fortress of the Kaylar. The image was later retooled for use as Flint's sanctuary in "Requiem for Methuselah."
- According to the non-canon comics series Star Trek Early Voyages, the building was named the Zemtar fortress, and the Kaylar warriors attacked because of their reluctance to see their homeworld join the peaceful Federation. None of these facts was derived from any actual production info, they were devised solely for the non-canon comic.
