Hope this message finds you in good health. I have submitted a formal request to be granted Bureaucrat priviledges for STI. I've been glad to build STI with fellow members these past months and have great interest to continuing to do so for the extended future. If you believe my efforts have been beneficial to STI, I would appreciate your support for my application to become a Bureaucrat, as my activity and abilities can further serve great use for Star Trek Initiative. I look forward to continue to work with you, fellow admins and members, and keep STI well maintained, as always.
Hi Tesseraktik, I am arranging a meeting for active members, admins and Staff of STI. Perhaps you can help spreading the word and would be great if you can attend as well. See the Forum thread for full details. Please post a time there when you're available. Thank you.
Just letting you know I've been upgrading pages on STI along with creating new ones and testing feasibility, which you're probably already aware of. As I was saying to Xean, I'm now fully acquainted with the layout of things on STI, confident it will progress. As I'm going to be maintaining it longterm, it's time for me to give STI a sitewide page upgrade. I call it Project Initiative. For this project, I will be going over the site pages individually, updating them with a focus on design, graphics, content and user accessibility; like the upgrades I've done to the Fan Fiction and Fan Club pages. I will also be adding many new pages, like Maps and Star Trek Automotive, all of which will greatly increase the size of the wiki in both page and content. I'll consider any suggestions or ideas, if you have any let me know. Feel free to browse any updated pages or added content. You're welcome to join me in upgrading anytime. :) XEAN (talk) 15:05, June 21, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I've had some issues there as well, found a few bugs along the way. I used workarounds though and developed a simple effective template to guide by; which includes the basics needed, namely covor photo, table, and category functionality. I will attempt to integrate more advancements in future, which will take a little more doing and is not as important a priority at the moment as organising, expansion and making sure pages are free from errors. I cleaned up some grammer and added a cover to the TIhIngan Hol page and am building the Infographics page. You can check them out whenever you have time.
I have actually had a request to promote http://trekinitiative.wikia.com/wiki/User:Risa_Suraya to admin status, they are part of Trek Radio, the Enterprise bridge restoration project, and are the features editor on 1701News.com so I really think it would be great for the wiki. I just wanted to let you know that I'd had the reqest and make sure you didn't see any reason why this person shouldn't be invited to join the wiki's Admin team, before I go ahead and promote them. Let me know your thoughts!
We need to get some more admins on the wiki, do you have any suggestions for who would be a good candidate? I thought we could post a blog perhaps asking for suggestions/nominations, and then you and I could talk about the options and promote one or two. Once we have a bigger community we could do admin promotions based on community votes...what do you think?
Checking back in to see if you've had any thoughts about this, I think it would be good to get a few more admins, provided we have anyone here who has been around long enough and put in some time on the wiki. It might also be a good idea to start thinking of ways we can get more people here and editing, so if you have any ideas around that let me know!
Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner; hectic times, I'm afraid.
I think perhaps XEAN could be a good candidate (potential name confusion notwithstanding ;)). He's quite active, seems to have a good grasp of editing, and dealt very nicely with questions from a new user (see his message wall).
Will try to take a closer look at past editing history to see if there are any good potential candidates.
It might be good to create a meta section of sorts, where people can discuss administration, maybe have a particular page dedicated to suggesting new admins, and so forth. Community voting would also be a nice idea for the future if we manage to get a large enough community that the votes aren't too easy to hi-jack.
I think that sounds like a great plan. I would like to leave that all to you if I might. Being Wikia staff, I'd rather not be seen as dictating too much of the community...that's not what the Trek Initiative is all about, it's about the community :D So I'll just make the suggestion and then you take whatever course you feel is best for the folks here now, and those we hope to attract :) Let me know if you do end up finding another admin and if you need help promoting them/giving them that user right. I would say that XEAN seems so far like a good candidate, but it might be worth giving them a bit more time on the wiki, just to make sure they're going to stick around and help out :)
Hmm, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to correct you, there :)
First, the subject: nuq'neH -> nuqneH …but it means "What do you want?", so it doesn't really make senae when you're the one opening communications. I suggest yIqIm!, meaning "Pay attention!" ;)
As for the post, the spelling should be: qaleghneS yur tlhIngan, qaStaH nuq? je *Xean* yeq jajvam yuQjIjDIvI' STO nItebHa'. maj ram, Qapla' batlh je!
…but that would mean: "I'm honored to see you, distant relative's Klingon who is superior to me in rank, what's happening? And. Today's United Federation of Planet's STO cooperates with Xean. Together. Good night, success and honor!"
So you do know how to speak! majQa lol, testing you out there. Thank you for the language tips. Xean from Staff told me about you and I thought I'd drop by and say hi. I'm the real Xean. As they say, Hoch 'ebmay tIjon. ;) I been around Star Trek a long time and involved in other Star Trek wiki's. I also play Star Trek online, where I lead a popular rising fleet. Xean and Staff got me get in here and I've been exploring, just getting started on Star Trek Initiative. Hope to see you around and maybe I'll see you in game sometime.
I've been noticing a bunch of folks adding podcasts to the wiki. Right now we have a seperate page for fan clubs and role playing and fan fiction etc. Do you think we should start a separate listing for Podcasts too? Right now they're just being added to our more general "other projects" page, but it seems like there might be enough to cull them out and create a Podcast page. What do you think?
I added many of the podcasts I know about from the radio and through people in the community. I'm not entirely happy with the formatting. I finally put it in a table just to get the spacing right but I wish the lines between cells were gone.
We could make a page for radio but I think there are only two internet stations as far as I know (Trek Radio and Subspace Radio). Trek Radio covers Star Trek and Sci-Fi content. Subspace Radio covers mostly Star Trek Online.
I think that's fine so long as we make sure and link to whatever page we're going to be using in the navigation, so everyone can find it...i'd think under "fan content" but you guys can make that call. Let me know if you need help editing the navigation when you're ready :)
Roddenberry Enetratinment wants to welcome you to the team and thank you for all of the work you have already put into Trek Initiative. Congratulations. With members like you leading the way, we are assured that Trek fandom will be alive and well for generations to come.
