Am I the only one who's torn on the issue of FX's planned TV adaptation of John Scalzi's Redshirts? I think we've all been waiting for a new Trek series, but a comedy/parody? I realize Redshirts is a critically acclaimed novel, and it even won the Hugo award last year, but I'm hungry for a real Trek adventure, not whimsical comic relief - no matter how well it's done. I don't necessarily want to see something that's constrained to the formula of any of the previous series, but I definitely want something serious, and within cannon. On the one hand, it is based on "Star Trek," but at the same time - after Ronald D. Moore's recent talk of interest in creating a legitimate new series - this feels like a bit of a letdown.
